The Player Development Index

The Player Development Index (PDI) is a statistics sheet created by Clean Sheet Football. PDI scores are calculated by tallying the transfer market values of the top 5 most valuable players representing a specific nation (according to transfermarkt.com). The totals are then divided by the country's population (rounded to the nearest hundredth). Thus, PDI scores measure countries’ ability to produce football talent relative to their population. So, a high PDI score would indicate that the country is producing higher quality footballers with a smaller population to work with. PDI scores are only given to countries in the top 10 of the FIFA World Rankings. In order to best represent meaningful changes in PDI scores, new editions of the PDI are released every 6 months, following the April and October updates of the FIFA World Rankings.
